How to Build a Personal Brand on Social Media

Every professional SHOULD have a personal brand on social media!

If you want to find a better job, you need a personal brand.

If you want to build relationships with potential customers, you need a personal brand.

If you want to do more sales, you need a personal brand.

If you want to grow your business, you need a personal brand.

Your personal brand is as much as how you show up in the world, as is how you show up for yourself every day.

Crafting a personal brand is more than a fancy description on your social media channels.

It's an opportunity to bring together your values, your mission, and purpose.

It takes looking deep down inside to uncover the true you, the one you've kept buried under layers of societal norms to fit in.

The good news is, it’s a step by step process.

The bad news is you’ll have to be serious about it and put in the work, day in, day out.

Here’s how to get started today.

10 Step to Build Your Personal Brand

1. Set aside 10 minutes each morning

2. Review all your social media channels and update them

3. Choose one platform to start building your personal brand. I recommend LinkedIn, but choose what works best for you.

4. Decide on a posting frequency. I recommend 2-3 times per week. Increase later as you become more comfortable.

5. Make a list with things you’d like to talk about on social media. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Things you are passionate about

  • What you’ve learned in the past year in your business or job

  • Mistakes you’ve made and how to avoid them

  • Books you’ve read and what you learned from them

  • Tips you used in your job or business that made a difference this year

  • Personal routines and habits you’ve cultivated that made a positive difference in your life

6. Start writing or recording videos if you like it better.

7. Have 3-4 posts (or videos) ready before starting posting. It will remove the stress of writing or recording every day.

8. Post on social media with the frequency you decided above.

9. Spend 10 minutes every day engaging people you admire, other professionals and creators on social media.

10. Be patient.

Building anything takes time.

Play the long game. It takes time to build a personal brand people will recognize and want to engage with.

Consistency is key.

Are you willing to put in the time and do this every day?
